So let’s recap. The Borderlands series had an MMO, briefly, that was only released in China. It shut down in 2015. Modder and dataminer EpicNNG was determined to not let this long-deceased project truly fade from history, and thus he started a quest to resurrect the game in a playable form as a push for game preservation. And there’s still a lot of work to be done, but one of the first milestones has been achieved as EpicNNG has announced that a team has made it into a build of the game, calling it a “massive win for media preservation.”
BREAKING: A TEAM HAS MADE IT IN TO BORDERLANDS ONLINE!
The game is not yet fully playable, and will take a long time to get it in a fully playable state, but one of the teams is in and can access numerous aspects of the game. pic.twitter.com/16XclXwPPY

Now, before you start clearing your schedule, EpicNNG makes it clear that a lot of the game is still not currently playable, there’s a ton of work to still be done, and this was only an early milestone. However, it is still a milestone. The game is in a workable enough stage that one of the internal teams working on bringing it back was able to actually interact with it. That’s not every hurdle down, but it’s a big one taken out.
