‘Predecessor has now officially exceeded the lifespan’ of Epic’s Paragon as it pre

If you stretch your MOBA brain back to 2024, you’ll remember the launch of Predecessor, one of multiple spinoffs of Epic Games’ open-source MOBA Paragon. This particular version was being built by a superfan and content creator of the OG game, Robbie Singh, and his team at Omeda Studios. Having launched last August, the game now sits at an all-time rating of mostly positive over on Steam, with a recent peak concurrency of 3500 players.

Now we’re about to see if those numbers perk up even more as Omeda has announced the game’s 1.7 update – and it’s a doozy, with a new hero named Renna and a total rebuild of the original map.

“Fast forward 11 months and for the first time since launch, Paragon and Predecessor fans will now have the long awaited opportunity to do battle on Agora, the original Paragon map which has been completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5,” Omeda says. “Agora will be available to all players for a limited time through the new Legacy Mode in Predecessor LABS. The release of Agora in the 1.7 update will not only serve as a chance for fans of the original game to pay one last nostalgic tribute to it, but it will give new players a chance to experience Agora for the first time ever in Omeda Studios’ Predecessor.”

The patch is due out on July 22nd, but in the meantime, you can be amused at the reminder in the press release that Predecessor has now outlived Paragon itself.

As we’ve previously noted, MOP’s Sam has taken all of the Paragon spinoffs for a ride and found Predecessor itself a solid take on the original, for those who wanted it back, anyhow.
