As Ubisoft has been keen to point out, the upcoming Year 2 Season 2 patch for Skull and Bones is bringing a chonky fella to the game in the form of the frigate, the multiplayer title’s first large-sized ship. If aiming a beastly boat had you salivating for more, then you’ll be happy to learn that a deep-dive dev blog has been put out with plenty of information.
As one might anticipate, the frigate is a tanky vessel that fields a total of 34 gun ports, double the auxiliary weapons, far more stability in open water, and the Grit perk that increases its own armor and reduces the damage for any friendly smaller ships that are sailing nearby. Of course there are tradeoffs, including some expected limited maneuverability, much slower speed while in rivers, and more weak points across its hull than other ships that take 30% more damage in PvP, which means those who face the frigate in PvP can still face the ship provided they position themselves and aim their shots well.
As one might expect, crafting the frigate will cost a lot of resources, but those who are capable of getting themselves this big boi will find a powerful and imposing ship indeed. The new ship will splash down with the game’s next patch on Tuesday, July 15th.
