Poorly made videos and ARK: Survival Evolved’s upcoming Aquatica DLC have gone hand in hand for some time now. Readers no doubt remember when the new content for the otherwise maintenance-moded survival sandbox was first announced, developer Snail Games USA did it with an AI-generated video that it since deleted and claimed ignorance about, followed by actual in-engine footage. It looks as if fans are still side-eyeing the video production team behind this one, as the visuals of an announcement trailer seem to be forefront in most people’s minds again.
We’ll start with the meat and potatoes about Aquatica: Snail Games USA has confirmed Tuesday, July 15th, as the launch date for the content on Steam, which brings a primarily underwater biome with 21 new tameable creatures, 74 new engrams including seven Tek engrams, and underwater-focused survival mechanics involving finding air pockets and using undersea propulsion vehicles.
With that said, the trailer that announced the launch date has drawn a lot of negative reception. As you can see below, the 11 second video features some barely animated pieces of concept art and the release date, which is simple but communicative, though replies in the comments are deeply unkind as most demand that Snail sell the ASE IP off or point out the underwhelming and low-effort reveal. “I’ve seen teasers for upcoming content for BROWSER GAMES that looked better than that,” remarks one such reply. “I finally found my PowerPoint presentation from 3rd grade,” snarks another.
