In the field of action roleplaying games, Chris Wilson is a name that is pretty well-known by now thanks to the success of Path of Exile. Wilson helped co-found Grinding Gear Games back in 2006 and helped to shepherd its successful ARPGs until 2023, when he departed the studio.

Now we know a little of what Wilson’s been up to, as he founded a new studio this year called Light Pattern in New Zealand. There’s very little we know about what this studio’s doing, other than working on its first (unannounced) title and attempting to hire an art director.

Of course, with Chris Wilson at the helm, a new online ARPG is not out of the bounds of possibility. The job description for the art director mentions that the applicant should appreciate “dark, moody worlds and love collaborating across disciplines to ship genre‑defining experiences” as well as possess “an appreciation for classic RPGs from the 1990s and 2000s” and “a deep familiarity with Diablo II” – “[n]ot just playing it, but understanding what makes its world, art, and systems so enduring.”

Recently, Wilson conducted a lengthy interview with Diablo II’s David Brevik:
