Ghouls, vaults, Kyle McLachlan showing off his chops as a villain… it’d be hard to argue that the Amazon Fallout TV show wasn’t a triumph or that it didn’t keep with the spirit of the video games. But it was notable that the series didn’t tie in specifically with a video game; there was no new game being released or re-released when it came out, apart from crossover content in Fallout 76. And now Fallout 76 fans are poised to reap fresh benefits from the show’s season 2 run, as creative director Jon Rush told Variety outright that Bethesda (what’s left of it after Microsoft’s mass layoffs, anyway) has plans to have the game cross over with the TV series once again.
Details are not yet shared; as Rush explains, the point with the first season was to make a thing that worked on its own, whereas the second season can be free to be a little more expansive. It also sounds as if it’s just a matter of timing.
“So the show is very effective storytelling, great storytelling, very Fallout, being made by folks that are big fans of the game and the series, and so are we. The two go together really well. So folks see the show and want more of that same kind of story, and they’re going to come into [Fallout] 76, they’re going to come into Fallout 4, or come into Fallout 3. Lining things up with the seasonal releases of the show, it’s stuff that we talk about all the time, and we do have plans for things here and there. I’m not going to go into detail on any of those now, but the two teams do talk to one another.”
Of course, the interview doesn’t confirm when the second season is actually releasing, never mind when the already greenlit third season is coming, so you’ll have to keep waiting for that particular bomb to drop.
