Make My MMO: Loftia plans ahead, Lionhearts fully funds

Welcome back to Make My MMO, MOP’s long-running column where we keep track of crowdfunded MMOs, both brand-new titles just starting their campaigns and older games long past their fundraising. We are watching three brand-new Kickstarters this round!

Kickstarted solarpunk MMO Loftia was already charming AF, but it added to its impressive appeal this week by telling players that game preservation motives have ensured it’s planning ahead: Should the game reach an end-of-life situation, Qloud Games has provisions to pass as much of the game on to the players as possible. “A plan like this requires extra work,” the devs wrote. “It means ensuring we have a ‘post-shutdown’ life in mind for systems, careful documentation, and maybe even having to spend the last weeks of our studio working on preservation. But for us, the cost is more than worth it.”

And Lionhearts, the medieval strategy MMO, fully funded on Kickstarter yesterday, pulling in over $160,000 from folks who apparently think it’s just fine to buy a video game duchy with real money.

Meanwhile,we’re keeping an eye on the Eldramoor Kickstarter that’s due to conclude – successfully – next week, we expressed our frustrations with throwback MMOs like Pantheon and Monsters & Memories, and we got a hard date for the launch of Ship of Heroes: August!

Read on for more on what’s been up with MMO crowdfunding over the last few weeks, plus our roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’re following!
