Why is the game called Blue Protocol? I don’t know, but when it shut down, I was more than a little blue about it. But Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is a resurrection of the game, sort of, and closed beta signups are opening on July 24th. Will I be there? Yes. Obviously. I love the color blue. We don’t know when the test will actually kick off, but I’m prepared to be anything but blue about it.
Speaking of blue… actually, no. Blade & Soul Heroes has nothing to do with blue; it’s just launching globally on September 2nd. That is unrelated to the color blue. You might be blue about the news that Nightingale is pivoting away from official servers, however, since that’s not a sign that everything is going peachy. You may also be blue about BitCraft’s roadmap, but that’s a bit more of a reach. It includes housing! Who could be blue about housing?
In moon-related news, there’s a blue moon that may or may not have seen me standing alone. Current evidence is inconclusive. I wouldn’t be alone if I had soaked myself in the beta news roundup just below, and maybe I’d be less blue if I had looked at all the games in testing below that. We won’t be blue if you let us know of anything that needs an update on our list in the comments. Da boo di, da boo die.

We consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s often under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed, nor will games that are NFT/blockchain scams; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions. Finally, we’ll mark games “malingering” if they’ve been in a certain tier of development for a long time with no clear path to launch.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
