It ain't 2001 any more.

Iterating, homogenizing, and copying might work to refine MMOs into more streamlined and comfortable products, but that process jettisons many quirky, interesting, or even — dare I say? — innovative elements in a rush to modernize.

Many of us here in the MOP community have long memories, so I invite you to lift up an old school design element that MMOs that you appreciated but rarely see these days. Do you have a greater appreciation now for them? Are these features or elements worth bringing forward into newer or more established MMOs?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
