“Adapt or get steamrolled.” That’s the tag line and basic instruction coming out of Overwatch 2 and its newly released Hacks & Hijinks mode that’s available for players to enjoy between now and July 28th. Assuming their idea of enjoyment is putting up with 8-bit Sombra’s randomizer nonsense.

This limited-time 6v6 version of Control matches will force teams to contend with a random pair of modifiers that engage during each round. “One round, you’re floating through the air with low gravity… the next, health packs are charging your Ultimate, melee punches launch enemies across the map, and crouching turns you invisible,” the post explains. “There’s no meta here—just fast, funny, and full-on ridiculous modifiers.”

Naturally there are rewards waiting for those who can deal with the lolrandom, including battle pass XP, an 8-bit spray, a weapon charm, and a unique player icon and title. While the modifier pairs are randomly selected, the post does give details on just what each one does in order to help prepare players for some of the goofery that awaits. Just try not to make this too sweaty; clearly this event is trying to lean in on the “hijinks” part of its title.
